Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Welcome to dikr — a platform for Islamic adhkar, duas, and Quran. We deeply respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy covers the dikr.org website and the dikr mobile apps for Android and iOS. It explains what we collect, what we don't collect, and how analytics and advertising work.

2. Information We Collect

a. What We Never Collect

  • We do not require account creation or login.
  • We do not collect personal information such as name, email address, or phone number.
  • We never sell your data to any third party.
  • Your tasbih counts, reading position and other preferences stay on your device.

b. Local Storage

The site uses your browser's localStorage exclusively to save your preferences, such as:

  • Light / Dark mode preference.
  • Tasbih counter settings (selected dhikr, target, count).
  • Prayer times preferences (city, calculation method, time adjustments).
  • Quran reading position and font size.
  • Navigation bar show/hide preference.

This data is stored on your device only and is never sent to our servers. You can clear it at any time from your browser settings.

c. Geolocation Data

The Prayer Times page requests permission to access your location in order to calculate accurate prayer times. This data is used directly in your browser via the open-source Adhan.js library and is never transmitted to our servers. When you manually search for a city, the search query is sent to Nominatim / OpenStreetMap, subject to their Privacy Policy.

d. Server Logs

Like any website, our server may automatically retain technical logs including IP address, browser type, requested URL, and timestamp. These logs are used for operational and security purposes only, and are never linked to any personal identity.

e. Analytics

To understand which pages are useful, the website uses Google Analytics and Ahrefs Web Analytics. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects usage data such as pages visited, approximate location (country / city), device and browser type. Ahrefs Web Analytics does not use cookies. The blog also counts article views with our own tool, which stores no cookies and no raw IP addresses. You can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

3. Advertising

a. Mobile apps (Google AdMob)

The dikr mobile apps show ads provided by Google AdMob. To deliver and measure ads, Google and its partners may collect and process:

  • Your device's advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID, or IDFA on iOS when you allow tracking).
  • IP address, from which an approximate location (country / city) is derived.
  • Device and app information (model, operating system, language, app version).
  • Ad interactions (ads shown and tapped) and diagnostic data.

This data is collected by Google, not stored on our servers. It may be used to show personalised ads, or non-personalised ads based on context only, depending on your device settings, your choices and the law in your country. We do not choose ads one by one; if you see an ad that is inappropriate for an Islamic app, please tell us so we can block it.

b. Website (Google AdSense)

The website currently shows no ads. In the future, the blog section may show ads provided by Google AdSense. When that happens:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites on the Internet.
  • Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland), you will be asked for your consent before advertising cookies are used.

c. Your choices

  • Turn off personalised advertising from Google in Google Ads Settings.
  • Opt out of personalised advertising from other vendors at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads → delete or reset your advertising ID.
  • iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, and turn off tracking for the app.
  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

d. In-app purchases

Purchases in the apps are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. We never receive or store your card details.

4. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following services, each governed by their own privacy policy:

  • Google AdMob — ads in the mobile apps.
  • Google AdSense — ads on the blog, if enabled in the future.
  • Google Analytics and Ahrefs Web Analytics — website usage statistics.
  • Cloudflare — content delivery and protection of the website.
  • Google Fonts — for loading fonts.
  • YouTube — embedded videos on some pages.
  • OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — for city search on the Prayer Times page.
  • Adhan.js — an open-source library that runs locally to calculate prayer times.

5. Content Rights

Quran text, adhkar, and duas presented on this site are derived from authenticated Islamic sources and belong to the Muslim Ummah at large. Any original code or design by dikr is protected by intellectual property rights.

6. Children's Privacy

The website and apps are intended for a general audience and are not directed at children under 13. We do not ask any user for personal information and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will help remove it.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date of the last revision is shown at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
